Printed to small squares of Washi. then pieced together like a quilt. Washi is fine strong paper which is made from fibers of various shrubs, trees and other natural materials.  Though it appears thin, it is incredibly strong paper. In Japan it is used for shoji screens and made into clothing.

In 2023, I created a series of pieced relief prints. It was not intended as a series. In fact it happened by accident.  Each of 4 pieces was to be positioned rotated 90 degrees relative to the first piece; then glued down. An unplanned design revealed itself after gluing the first piece down incorrectly. The  orientation was not what I had worked out. From that error, I discovered 3 possible design solutions. 

The piece is 12" X 9". The process is pieced Relief Print. Printed in Chromatic black on Mulberry Paper. 

Celestial events are inspiring to me. This year we had, within the past 3 months, 2 celestial events. One a Super Blue moon on August 31st, and two - a partial eclipse yesterday, October 14. The first was the inspiration for this piece entitled Baby Blue . 

This piece was exhibited in the 2022 Dia De Los Muertos show at the Bathhouse Cultural Center in Dallas in October.  The  annual exhibit celebrates the cultural tradition, which we Texans have adopted from Mexico honoring ancestors.
