Pink Geometry, detail. Paper, thread and plane geometry.Pink Geometry is my latest experiment with woodblock printing. It combines woodblock printing with hand stitches as the blocks are pieced together with needle and thread. The paper used is from Thailand. Its delicacy belies its strength. As sheer and delicate as it is, it's strong enough to be stitched together as a kind of paper quilt. I had no idea what I'd get when I ran it through the press. The paper has very large fibers running though it, which asserted themselves during the printing process. What is showing is the back side of the print. The large dense fibers in the paper blocked the ink from seeping through to the back. This effect was an unknown but delightful outcome, which drove the experiment forward.
